79
head taken in total which was 17% down on 2006

Not
one of our better years! Snow ice and mud (see pictures) were a major
contributor to the shortfall.
-
We
had some substantial numbers in some of the groups, so it took a long time
to place all the guns.
-
One
estate under-performed and has been cancelled.
-
However,
since 65 % of the guests are returning for 2008 it must have been enjoyable.
Memorable
highlights.
-
Four
bronze medal class boar were taken and one silver.

A young
army gent shot 4 boar in one day

Our
regular farmer guest shot 4 on one drive.
A Cautionary
Tale
-
One
young gentleman wounded a boar and was attacked by it for his trouble,
actually he was knocked over and received a two inch wound into his calf.
The tusk cut though his rubber welly, inner lining, wool sock and skin
(this could be a talking point for the rest of his life). The boar ran
away. The moral of this tale is NEVER leave PEG to look at your PIG -
it is our job to find it and finish it. Now if it come to
you, that’s another story.
The
snow and ice made it necessary to push and shove the vehicles, turn back,
take alternative routes and one fine day we had one stuck on the hill for
the whole day. Croat hunters and their transport came to the rescue and
we got the vehicle out by the evening.
-
A special
mention should be made of our Welsh guests for being such good sports,
sorry it could not have been how I wanted.
-
St
Hubert smiled on our full young team (many shot gunners) but I am sorry
to say that they all got away without the “initiation ceremony”!
You will get it double next time.
-
Finally
our senior team; they showed a lot of spirit with artificial hips, new
knees, pending surgery, general cardio-vascular degeneration and other
ailments. Sorry about the snow and mud, we have never had to do so much
walking, what can you do when none of the vehicles could be driven into
the chosen area?
Thank
you for your trust in joining us yet again. I am glad that I have
found imported wines and spirits in Zagreb that were appreciated along
with the Salami, Kulen & Ham. (I will keep this up)
Just
to end the season Bernard shot a Gold medal bear in the Gorski Kotar
on Thursday of Easter week.
