Year 2006/7 has  been a successful year.  We had five full groups and a small-group January additional visit.

QUARRY:

  • The total quarry taken by BSA visitors was 97 hogs, of which 2 boar were in medal class.
  • Without mentioning names several guests distinguished themselves and entered the BSA record book.
  • A relatively senior gentleman from the north east shot 6 pigs on one drive with 8 shots.
  • One  guest had hand to hand combat with 200 KG of hog, finally poking it in the eye with the muzzle of an emptied rifle (5 dogs ended up for stitching at the vets and two beaters were also attacked)
GUESTS:
  • This year Basswood had the pleasure of looking after two sportsmen from South Africa(boy could they shoot!); two sportsmen from Ireland (boy could they drink!); and two gentlemen from the Middle East (both British subjects and experienced shooters)
  • We had 5 sportsmen from the St Hubert Society who demonstrated the ultimate safety practice (all five succeeded in taking a boar.)
SAFETY:
  •  At the suggestion of a regular guest we are making a formal presentation on safety and procedure  after dinner on arrival of each group at the Jankovac Lodge.
  • We have become aware that many guests bringing a shotgun are having their first experience at firing a slug at live quarry (clearly a bad thing)
  • We are also using the Jankovac facility for zeroing in and rifled slug familiarisation on the first morning.

COSTS:
In future there will be a change in the costing of the group package price.
BSA  will now include in their ‘All Inclusive Price’ :

  • The cost of Croatia Hunting Police Permits
  • Gratuities for beaters and hunt masters for all three days
  • Tips to the Jankovac Lodge staff
  • Trophy tusk preparation.
This will eliminate all that money changing in 3 currencies  at  inopportune  times.
(BSA will pay all except the bar bill)

2007-08:
We are well booked already for Nov 2007 so please do not leave booking to the last moment (I hate saying sorry no more places, as I had to do it last year)  Some vacancies still for Nov 29th
